The Original Mountain Marathon (OMM) is renowned as one of the hardest endurance navigation events in the world. The 2 day event takes place each year at the end of October with competitors navigating line or score courses, over intense mountain terrain, battling tough weather, all whilst carrying their food and kit for a brutal overnight camp in extreme conditions.
This year seven Eryri Orienteering members took on the challenge:
Ian Jones completed the 'Long Score' with teammate Jeff Powell Davies (BL) scoring 916 points and taking a sensational 5th place overall out of 151 teams.
Ellie Salisbury completed her 121st mountain marathon, finishing the 'Medium Score' with teammate Louise Beetlestone, in a fantastic 6th place all-female team out of 26.
Neal & Deri Hockley completed the highly competitive 55km A course in 11th place out of 50 teams. They also won the family category, stepping onto the podium to take their prizes!
Anwen Hockley and Anna Drinkwater completed the 37km B course in 10 hours to take 28th place out of 139 teams, a great result which was enough for 6th place all-female team.
Hayley Turner also completed the B course alongside teammate Nick Jones. They finished just 9 minutes behind Anwen & Anna in 32nd place overall, which secured them 5th place mixed team.
Llongyfarchiadau i bawb!
